Forty under 40: Maine leaders to be honored

A July 14 harbor cruise and published profiles will recognize rising stars' contributions.

Forty of Maine's emerging leaders will be honored in MaineToday Media's first annual Forty under 40 event.

The July 14 event will acknowledge the rising stars, creative problem solvers and emerging experts who are revered by their peers, friends and managers alike.

Recipients were nominated for their commitment to leadership, professional excellence and their communities.

"We're thrilled to launch our first-ever Forty under 40 program in southern Maine because it gives us an opportunity to recognize some incredibly talented achievers who have contributed so much to the state and their communities," said Richard L. Connor, president and CEO of MaineToday Media, which owns The Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram, the Waterville Morning Sentinel and the Kennebec Journal, along with their respective websites.

The 40 honorees represent a broad array of professions and reflect a diversity of services to Maine's economy and culture.

The list includes the director of The Telling Room, the president of iBec Creative, the general manager of the Portland Sea Dogs, the director's assistant at Maine Preservation, the executive director of Hardy Girls Healthy Women, and the founder and director of the Camden International Film Festival.

Rob Brown, founder of Opportunity Maine, said he was honored to be nominated for the award. "I'm really excited. It's nice recognition and I hope it will bring attention to the cause and the work we do throughout the state," he said.

Opportunity Maine is a leader in organizing grassroots initiatives that address Maine's educational, economic and energy challenges. Founded in 2006, it promotes economic security and sustainable development with innovative investments in the education and skills of Maine's work force.

The honorees will participate in a three-hour harbor cruise and networking event on a Casco Bay Lines Bay boat. The event will include beverages, appetizers and live music by Adam and the Waxmen.

Starting July 14, the Portland Press Herald will publish a profile of one honoree per day for 40 consecutive days.

The Forty under 40 group can be found on Facebook and has close to 100 followers already.

Tickets are available for $55 for the harbor cruise event and can be purchased at www.portix.com.
